Loebsack Applauds More Than $20 Million Investment in Coralville Infrastructure
Congressman Dave Loebsack announced today that the City of Coralville has received a grant for $20,525,359 to replace the existing standard diamond interchange at Exit 242 on Interstate 80 with a diverging diamond interchange. The funding will also replace existing dual bridges over Interstate 80 at 1st Avenue with a single structure, reconstruct four exit and entrance ramps, relocate one ramp terminal intersection, and construct crossover intersections at the ramp terminal intersections. This funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) FY20 Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grants program, which Loebsack has championed. Earlier this year, Loebsack wrote to the DOT in support of Coralville’s application for this funding.
“This announcement is great news for the people of Coralville and those who travel along I-80,” said Loebsack. “With all of the new restaurants, hotels and retailers in the area, this new interchange design will help traffic move more smoothly and safely and improve the quality of life. I was pleased to support the proposal and I am excited to see the final results and the valuable local jobs that will be created.”
