Congressman Dave Loebsack today called on the State of Iowa to require mask usage when out in public. Iowa continues to see the number of COVID cases rise and many health experts, scientists and doctors have called for the State to require the use of masks while in public to help slow and stop its transmission.
“We have heard from local and national health officials, such as Dr. Deborah Birx, an advisor to the White House Coronavirus Task Force, that in order for our state to slow the spread of transmission, Iowa must increase its mitigation efforts. To best achieve that goal, it is imperative that the Governor issue a requirement for all Iowans to wear a mask when out in public.” said Loebsack.
In an interview, Dr. Birx specifically mentioned several states, including Iowa, that have been experiencing large outbreaks. She then stated: “We believe if the governors and mayors of every locality right now would mandate masks for their communities and every American would wear a mask and socially distance and not congregate in large settings where you can't socially distance or wear a mask that we can really get control of this virus and drive down cases as Arizona has done.”
