Loebsack Praises New E15 Rule to Allow Year-Round Sales
Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after it was announced that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would begin rulemaking to allow the year-round sale of gasoline mixed with 15 percent ethanol (E15). Current law does not allow E15 to be sold in the summer months. Loebsack has long worked on a bipartisan basis to broaden fuel choices for consumers. Earlier this Congress, Loebsack joined with Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) to introduce HR 1311, the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, which would have legislated this move to E15. As co-chair of the House Biofuels Caucus, Loebsack has led the fight for greater access to fuel blended with ethanol and biofuels.
“It is past time that E15 is made available for year-round sales. I am proud to lead the fight for year-round E15 in Congress, but I am pleased that the Administration finally took this step. Ethanol is a homegrown renewable energy source that supports millions of jobs in communities across Iowa and throughout the country,” said Congressman Loebsack. “This rule change will remove an unnecessary barrier and allow E15 gasoline to be sold in the summer months. Making this change will help expand consumer choice at the pump, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil, and stimulate economic development throughout the country.”
