Congressman Dave Loebsack today announced that five hospitals in Iowa’s Second Congressional District will receive a total of $4,364,127 in additional funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to address the geographic inequalities that many of Iowa’s hospitals face. These payments were included in the Affordable Care Act that was signed into law last year. During negotiations, Loebsack worked to include these additional payments in the bill to reward Iowa hospitals and providers for providing high-quality, low-cost care.
“These payments are an important step in starting to shift our nation’s health care system to one in which health care providers are rewarded for making patients healthy as opposed to the number of tests and procedures they order,” said Loebsack. “We must continue to move the nation toward the fiscal responsibility and efficiency that makes Iowa a model for fundamental reform.”
The five hospitals and the amount they will receive are listed below. In total, 21 hospitals across the state received additional funding.
