Congressman Dave Loebsack issued the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s announcement that the unemployment rate was 9.2 percent in June and the economy only added 18,000 jobs.

"The Department of Labor’s jobs report released today should be a wakeup call for Washington about the urgent need to focus on our economy and job creation. The bottom line is our economy is still struggling and too many Iowans still can’t find work. When I am not in Washington voting for Iowans, I am traveling Iowa and have seen over and over again the concern on the faces of too many Iowans who are struggling.  Iowans know Washington needs to focus on practical solutions that work for families, not partisan agendas and I will keep fighting for real solutions for real people.

“Politicians in Washington have been more interested in partisan bickering than our economic recovery, and that is unacceptable. I hope that after the release of the job numbers today, we can put this political posturing aside and refocus our attention on what is really important- training for American workers, job creation, and getting our economy back on track.”
