Congressman Dave Loebsack announced today that he is accepting applications for nomination to the United States’ military academies for the class entering in the summer of 2010. Congressman Loebsack will nominate up to ten Iowans for every opening at each academy, with final selection for admission made by the individual academy from that group of ten.
“Last month I toured schools across the district, meeting outstanding young Iowans and answering their questions about the application process. I look forward to recommending the fine young Iowans I met as well as the many students I have yet to meet,” said Congressman Loebsack. “It is a great honor as a member of Congress to participate in the nomination process, and I encourage our promising young students to apply.”
Our nation’s military academies offer Iowans educational opportunities for young people interested in military service. Students can specialize in a variety of fields at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.
The materials must be submitted to Congressman Loebsack’s office by September 30, 2009. Once the Congressman’s office has received all of the application materials, the Congressman will send a letter confirming that the file is complete. Further questions should be directed to the Congressman’s Academy Coordinator, Alicia Trimble, at 150 1st Avenue NE, Suite 375, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401, (319)364-2288. Alicia can be emailed at Alicia.Trimble@mail.house.gov.
