Health Care Reform for Iowa Families

I would like to thank the countless Iowans who came to the town hall meetings, wrote my office, and spoke with me about health care reform. On Sunday, March 22, the U.S. House of Representatives voted and passed the Senate Health Care Reform bill and the House reconciliation package.

With your input, opinions, and concerns, many of you helped make this a better, stronger bill. In the Second District alone, this bill will

  • Improve employer-based coverage for 416,000 residents.
  • Provide credits to help pay for coverage for up to 156,000 households.
  • Improve Medicare for 95,000 beneficiaries, including closing the prescription drug-donut hole.
  • Provide tax credits to help reduce health insurance costs for up to 13,700 small businesses.
  • Allow 54,000 young adults to obtain coverage on their parent's insurance plans.
  • Provide coverage for 20,500 uninsured residents.
  • Protect up to 800 families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs.
  • Reduce the cost of uncompensated care for hospitals and health care providers by $156 million annually.
Together, we have truly created change, and I could not be more proud to be your representative.
